Chic: Summer Nail Colors For Every Skin Tone

Summer is my favorite fashion month.  It houses fun elements like drinks at a sideway café, summer concerts in the park and short shorts with tanks tops. Summertime invokes a feeling of release not had by the other seasons.

I also like summer because it allows you to play with color. The easiest way to punch up a simple look is with nail polish.  Each week I find myself in the nailery leaving with an assortment of colors from rainbow to pastel shades.

Like with any fashion element, each item doesn’t work for every person and nail polish is no different.  Below you will find my color recommendations for your hue. ENJOY!

Preppy Chic With A Realness Twist

So my Bff texts me today with a fashion emergency.  He is going to his first summer Bar-BQ and he wants to try something new.  His usually attire is H&M meets Urban Outfitters but he is interested in giving Preppy Chic a twirl.

 

He writes: Gabbie Gal, What about shorts and shoes?

Now this can end up several ways, but hopefully:

My suggestion is to commit to the look. There is a way to dabble in any trend without looking customy and shocking the senses of those you interact with. I say try Preppy Chic with a Realness Twist; meaning take on the look without loosing you.

My Suggestions:

 

 

1.  I like the feel of Khaki is screams summer. With a clean lace up flat, a rolled sleeve distressed denim top and stunners shades he could be the bell of the ball.

2.  The cardigan gives this look a causal yet pulled together vibe. The bright accent color of the shoes and sweater brings in the tone of summer, while the muted white and grey makes it stylish and not trendy.

3.  Aside from this model being SUPA SEXY, he is really rocking the look. Confidence goes a long way so owning your short shorts and hightops is the key to pulling off this blazer and button down look.

4.  "Chillin in the club with my B-Boy Stance," I so hear Cassidy when I saw this look. Its rough and rugged without looking sloppy.  He paired Black Skytop Supra’s with the crisp white and black look. Nothing says summer like clean whites, so fellas that means a new white tee.

5.  No rule says bright=summer. I like the semi-monochromatic navy on navy this lad is serving.  Minus the dusty flats is he serving school boy realness and I love it.

Now these are just suggestions on where this trend can go. The key is knowing yourself and apply YOUR style philosophy to make this look Chic!

Style Files: My Fashion Rules To Live By

Cleaning out my closet inspired me to list my fashion rules to live by.  I find people strive to be "So Different" and breathe the motto "I’m Unique" and they forget the basics; just be you :

1. Ballerina flats should only be worn by the Alvin Alley dancers.

2. If you have Thunder Thighs, tights should never be the base of your outfit. This is a rule that can be broken by our brickhouse sistahs but as a general rule of thumb its a NO NO.

3. Highlighting your positives doesn’t mean your clothes have to be painted on. Sexy is a state of mind remember that.

4. Trendsetters invest in quality, especially when dealing with leather goods; i.e. handbags, jackets, and footwear.

5. Flies are attracted to shit. Begin with your look when your concerned about being single.

6. A quality high heel and slim jean will always do the trick.

7. Simple is always sexy.

Damn Those Paparazzi: I’ve Been Photographed

So my friends and I recently had a hot night on the town.  I wore my sexy new skinny jeans, basic razorback tank, my Gucci heels and Steven clutch; I was truly feeling myself.  As the Nuvo began to flow and we made our rounds from lounge to lounge the picture man at the various spots asked my fly Entourage to post for some snapshots.

 

I politely decline all requests of the paparazzi and did a two-step off stage left. Towards the end of the night my girl is like, "What’s the deal you looking good tonight?"

My reply " Exactly!"   I have the Oprah complex as I like to call it. 

I can’t repeat an outfit twice in one month and I certainly can’t wear something again once I’ve been photographed. With sites like twitpic, facebook and myspace, photo albums have seriously changed the style game. I was reading a post over at LateBoots and Phifer had a similar experience.  He posed for the Gawdess Ms. Ambrose and I would’ve done the same but I refuse to allow the Paps to put my 7’s out of rotation! lol
